If you have deleted some of you messages before you realize that these messages contain important information, you might panic at the loss. Important information including client phone number, address for an important meeting, bank account to which you need to do a transfer, and assignment from your children’s teacher etc may be included in the deleted messages, so you are desperate to work our a way to recover them. Actually, there are more than one way to recover messages deleted by mistake, for example, if you have turn automatic backup on in iTunes, you can recover from the latest iTunes backup file. And one thing you need to keep in mind is stop using your iPhone or iPad the moment you realize the deletion by mistake. By doing so, data overriding can be avoided to the greatest extent if you choose to recover from iTunes/iCloud backup file.

Solution 1: Recover messages deleted by mistake through iTunes

Restore messages from iTunes Backup

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to your computer.

Step2: Run iTunes and click on the button of “Restore Backup” located at the bottom right corner. Make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes. If there are updates for iTunes, update iTunes at first.

Note: You probably get a popup menu asking to turn off “Find My iPhone”. Therefore the first thing is to go to iCloud settings on your iPhone and turn off Find My iPhone.

Step 3: Choose Backup file. Choose a backup for your iPhone from the dropdown menu. You can go to computer\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to check out the date and size of the Backup file size for the iPhone.

Step 4: Hit the button to restore. The restoring process may take quite a while, depending on the size of the backup file size you choose. After the process finishes, all the data will be restored to your computer, please check the messages to make sure whether it is restored successfully.

Solution 2: Recover carelessly deleted messages through iCloud

The only way to restore an iCloud backup is to completely erase all of your iPhone's data and settings, and then restore from a particular iCloud backup.

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi and plug it into the charger.

Step 2: Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings to wipe all the content currently on your iPhone or iPad.

Step 3: Select the option Restore From iCloud Backup.

Step 4: Enter your iCloud account and password.

Step 5: Choose the recent backup you wish to restore to your iPhone. Enter any passwords required when prompted.

The restoring may take quite a while and you will see a progress bar with time remaining as iCloud restores your data.

After the process finishes, all the data you have backed up will be restored to your iPhone or iPad, you can check your iPhone to make sure the deleted messages have been recovered successfully.
